About 80km south: the famous red and ochre cliffs of Morro Branco. Buggy ride along the beach, dramatic falésias, and the labyrinth of coloured sandstone. Full day out.

What to expect

Kitesurf & Wing Foil

Ceará is one of the best kite destinations in the world, with steady trade winds and warm flat water. 4 × 2-hour lessons on the water. Kids get their own surf lessons on the same beach.

Porto das Dunas

Our base. Beachfront resort apartment with direct beach access and a pool. This is one of the most beautiful stretches of the Ceará coast: calm, warm, and uncrowded.

Morro Branco

Iconic red sandstone cliffs and labyrinthine rock formations. We'll do the buggy ride along the beach and the falésias. About 1h30 from Porto das Dunas.

Beach Park

South America's biggest waterpark is literally next door. A full day out for all 9 of us. Ages 5 to 12 will be in heaven. Definitely worth booking tickets in advance.

Beira Mar, Fortaleza

The city's famous waterfront promenade. Enjoy an evening walk, craft stalls, sea air, and dinner at one of the seafood restaurants. One of Fortaleza's unmissable experiences.

Beach & Pool Days

Not every day needs a plan. Kids in the water, dads on kid duty, moms horizontal on a sunbed with a book and a cold drink. August is the dry season in Ceará, so expect nothing but sunshine.

Weather

August is dry season in Ceará. Expect 28–32°C, strong trade winds (great for kite), very little rain. Pack light.

Language

Portuguese throughout. Some English at tourist spots. A few words of Portuguese go a long way as locals are warm and welcoming.

Getting around

Day trips by hired car or van. Fortaleza city by Uber. Beach Park is walkable from Porto das Dunas.

What to bring

High SPF sunscreen, rash vests for the kids, reef-safe sunscreen for water sports, good sandals, and a light layer for evenings.
